I came across this great article written by Sunita Narain of Centre for Science and Environment. Please do post your comments and reactions. Thanks. Adite
Earlier this year, I called the Union budget myopic (see Down To Earth, March 31, 2008). Let me reiterate why. The [Indian] Union budget did not take into account the fact the world was beginning to face new challenges, all of which were devastating, and related. One, the rising cost of our food—you will recall subsequently prices did go up a…

Beyond some milestone making events with seismic power, I am about to embark on a journey, roughly to be described as "Conceptual Campaigning" - in order to make the concept of Sustainopreneurship go viral, globally.
What has made this possible is
1. The latest book chapter on Sustainopreneurship and
2. As a result, making it possible to publish and get accepted a new Wikipedia article

A new Report by the IFPRI has analyzed hunger levels in 17 major states across India and found that the "state hunger index" scores range from serious to extremely alarming. Here's a press release of the report findings.

CSR is a much-debated topic. While most CSR activities have mostly remained at the level of generating good PR for the corporates, here is an example of American Express' attempts at funding innovative programs that seek to benefit a constituency other than that of the company's core client base.
The Members Project of American Express invited social entrepreneurs to submit their innovative projects. Based on votes of American Express card holders [as well as non-card holders]the deserving proj…

I know this is primarily an issue related to the U.S. but as the "elected leader" has an impact on international policy/relations I am sharing this here. This connects directly to the issue of social capital I have mentioned in my conversations with Anders and others so on that basis as well, I feel this may be of some interest to members here.
I have long been an advocate for end user led innovation, especially in IT. Currently private vendors and a select group of insiders are the only ones p…

Way back (as it seems) in 2002 I told friends upon my return from my first trip to Scotland "mark my words, Scotland is about to become hipper than she has been since Victoria sat on the throne" - they thought I was nuts. Here's Western Europe's poorest nation (according to the OECD stats) and how on Earth was it going to become cool? and marketable? Yet I set forth into unknown territories and created the world's first sustainable luxury brand (sustain the planet, sustain the cultural identity,…

Giving response to a feedback I received when I presented the paper on outlining future research on sustainopreneurship - that in fact challenged the very core element of the new conceptual development - the Cause dimension. There was not enough space, time and room to continue the conversation, since it was in the last slot of the third day, and only gave 15 minutes in general after an equal fifteen minute presentation of the paper. So, now I bring it here as a first issue- and community-orient…

A working name of a new organization was introduced in a paper I presented at www.isdrs.org in Västerås, Sweden, in June, 2007 -
Association of Enactive Research, Education and Application for Sustainopreneurship.Since enough publications in the academic, respected and publically trusted research community in enough diverse contexts now have given approval of the conceptual development and the definition, the time has come to form and formalize a new organization to give…

I see that some members found the community by serendipity. I have updated the "disclaimer textbox" with the fact that I got the Master Thesis together in May, 2007, and directly followed the authoring of a research paper for the conference ISDRS 13th. I will not bother you with details and lots of links (that will appear on my main blog some of the days - this blog post will be updated when it happens), more than the merging of these two publications will be published later:
"Sustainop…

So - now we have set up a community for Sustainopreneurs. Or at least, we are sandboxing the Ning Platform (
www.ning.com) to see if it fits the purposes and supports us who rises to the challenges formulated by the Sustainability Agenda - and to make great businesses out of the world's biggest problems.
Peace,
