Inger, effectively applying knowledge from natural systems is a fascinating challenge. The paradox is that nature does not 'design' (some might argue that the design is outside our understanding), yet is full of robust, diverse and vibrant systems. At the same time, I think designers can play a pivotal role in the human species 'fitting in'. Maybe we need to design enabling conditions or 'systems principles', rather than products or processes. If you are interested, there is some very early thinking at http://sinet.ca/patterns.

Inger, I was actually in Oslo some weeks ago, unfortunately for less than a day (the joys of taking a cruise). My wife and I very much enjoyed Oslo, compared to some of the other stops.

I publish the quarterly BioInspired! Newsletter (http://biomimicry.typepad.com/newsletter) for the Biomimicry Institute (http://biomimicryinstitute.org). The goal is finding ways of applying knowledge learned from natural systems to solve human problems. One of my objectives is to highlight successful commercial applications. Recent issues had stories on CO2 Solution, Biosignal and BioPower. The November issue will have a case study on applying swarm theory to power management.

Hi Inger,

Wonderful to get your questions! And after taking a look at your blog very excited about several points of convergence in our interests....

Where are the signs...I think ArtEconomy is one of the most exciting indicators that others are paying attention to similar/related issures and ideas
http://www.arteconomy.be/html/project7.html

And how interesting that you ask about the fusion transformation because I am working on a paper, two film treatments, a mixed media art series, and two book contributions about exactly these kinds of questions.

One of my primary interests are the roles of creativity and social capital...We will highlight case studies that give very encouraging indicators or explain concepts. I will touch on how Cultural Fusion represents a vital link in the chain of events that blossom with the loving commitment (aka marriage) of creativity and social capital instead of just the steamy affair we see with The Red campaign http://www.joinred.com
or the friendly flirtation of Blast Theory http://www.blasttheory.co.uk

I think that whether or not the transformation is visible as it transpires will depend on what one is paying attention to....I am going to blog about the story i'm developing to explain this, so be on the look out for the link once i post it :-)

Thanks for connecting!

...the fascination of living the fast life, with the knowhow of the need for slow sliving speed!

The video from the city where I live. not sustainable at all - and I loved it.

Live with the myth of the 360degree story of the Norse Mythology - after chaos - it restart from zero!

We live the chaos - we embody the solutions of our common challenges, by living them! Yes, this is my comment to the video I downloaded from YouTube - like a copycat in my doings, but not in my spirit!
