When your sustainopreneurial route with your partner all dimensions gets your hands TOO dirty, you're always welcome to get in to wash your hands at the café restroom, relax and chat with some fellow café guests and get re-spirited for next turnabout "in the field" in "sustainoville" :).
Love your energy, love to have you here!
Peace,
Anders
PS. See my rants - and raves :) - over at PHI Ning :) DS.
Hi Theresa
I just spent 5 minutes looking at your website and I must say I really enjoyed the visit. Esepcially some of the stories.
It's a good read as much as anything else.
One thing, at the page:
http://www.thistleandbroom.com/about/press/tab_pr_13_0307.htm
there is a link in the paragraph About Thistle and Broom Limited which doesnt work
Also what does it entail to be a Friend of Thistle and Broom
Finally.
The PR people we use don't specialise in your area of work. I can ask Tim, the MD, if he has any contacts though.
I guess fashion journalists would help - I will keep my ears and eyes open for you. We meet lots of different people in our work so will bear you in mind
Dear Andrew,
Well it's not just in the Shetlands. I am working to change people's perceptions about Harris Tweed from being your grandfathers sport jacket to suitable for a ladies (very sexy) couture ball gown - see the T&B website for our Dichotomy Gown. This because at one time there were over 5000 hand weavers of Harris Tweed and now, today there are about 30. Your words mean a great deal as it has been a self funded, lonely struggle to redefine the luxury goods space to focus upon these cultural icons that are slipping through the hourglass sands. Please help me spread the word? IF any of you know a journalist who is interested in cultural heritage, luxury goods, ecommerce, Fair Trade, and sustainability - even if it weren't me driving the bus it makes a great human interest story because these people (without formal educations and no marketing expertise) are willing to embrace something utterly foreign to them whilst doing extraordinary work.
Your blessing of love and light is gratefully accepted Andrew. I am off to bed.
Teresa
Hi Andrew,
Thanks very much for asking me to be your friend. I'm running late getting ready to leave for a conference, but look forward to talking next week to see what we might collaborate on.
FYI, I will be in London in January to speak at the World Entrepreneurship Summit. http://www.wes08.net
Perhaps I'll see you there!
Take care,
Steve
Andrew, Thank you for your kind words.
Your passionate words (your profile) are lyrical and whilst we are all approaching 'making changes' differently our common commitment (and frustrations) are what will guide to actually make the differences I believe all truly human beings want - though many are simply too caught up in surviving to take the risks we all (as members here) have embraced.
I take incredibly pleasure in the fact that less than 2 months ago an 85 year old lady living in Shetland was living on her tiny pension and knitting for her grandchildren. Today she received her fourth order for a hand knit Fair Isle sweater being paid 8 times what going rate in Shetland is through an order on the Thistle & Broom website. She's so backed up now that we're making provisions for her 82 year old sister to help with the knitting (it takes 100 hours or more to complete a full size sweater). It's a little success story in sustainability in the face of J. Crew's bastardisation of Scotland on their new website.

Hometown:

About Me:
I work for an organisation called PHI.
You may have heard of it because the founder of our organisation Christine Crowstaff is here.
It's difficult to write about me without talking about the work I do - because I live and breathe my work. Not because I am a workaholic but because it is such exciting work.
And why is it exciting?
Because it is about social change, both dreaming social change and creating social change.
At the grassroots, down in the ditches, getting my hands dirty, for social change.
And what is so exciting you might ask about social change?
Well it means living on the edge, taking risks, diving deep into inner resources.
Most importantly it is about the heart.
Living in the heart. Caring for others from the heart. Wanting to make a difference from the heart.
And the time is now! Right this minute. Social Change is needed now.
It is time to end poverty, It is time to end homelessness.
It is time to care for others. It is time to get rid of the causes of violence, hatred, war, famine, hunger.
There can be no other time than now to start.
Not tomorrow, not next week, not next year
NOW
This is my life, this is what I do, this is what I work for.
My joy is meeting other people who work for social change
